vertuila Enjoyable loosely themed compilition. The sparse and completely inadequate notes claim that, "all songs are the theme of death, travel and transendence." How in the world this claim is true of the Memphis Jug Band song, I have no clue. Better if they had just given the release dates and left it at that. Decent compilation, just very sloppily presented.

Joost Verweij Hearing is believing, hallelujah! Favorite track: Gary Davis - Death Don't Have No Mercy.

Robert Bloemkolk A treasure trove. Patton, Wilkins, Cannon Jug Stompers combined with some obscure gospel sides. Name your price and pick it up. Superb stuff. Favorite track: Cannon's Jug Stompers - Poor Boy.

about

Compilation of top notch Gospel and blues recorded between 1927 and 1967. A mix of very well known artists such as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Gary Davis and Robert Wilkins and more obscure folks like John Lee and Charles White. A record filled with some of Mississippi Records favorite recordings – ripping guitar work outs, soulful ballads, loping drunken jug bands and more. All songs are on the theme of travel, death and transcendence. Got an existential crisis? This may be the record for you.
